About this mod

This is a complete rework of the game lighting. The look is as close as possible to vanilla while deeply rebalancing different aspects of each region/weather lighting.

Jojolapin102's Lighting Mod:
This mod aims at rebalancing the game lighting and correcting inconsistencies. It keeps as much as possible the vanilla look, while at the same time matches my tastes.

The final goal of the mod is to tweak and correct each lighting configuratio file to match my vision and improve visually the game. For now, and because it takes a lot of time to fine-tune every setting, some regions/weathers of the game are not modified yet.

The mod will receive updates until it is fully finished.

Changelog:
4.0a:
  • Preview version of the mod
  • Incomplete (missing regions and weathers)
  • Includes lighting modifications of:
  1. Toussaint sunny
  2. Toussaint cave
  3. Toussaint rainy
  4. Von everec manor exterior
  5. Cutscenes (outside of Toussaint)
  6. No man's land (swamp)
  7. Velen and Novigrad (almost entirely)
  8. White Orchard (partially)
  9. Skellige (almost entirely)
  10. WIP Kaer Mohren
  11. Custom interior lighting
  12. Custom shadowmap filtering

More details about the mod:
  • In addition to lighting modification, the mod incorporates custom made lighting for specific scenarios.
  • There are global corrections applied for every region of the game, which act differently depending on the type of SSAO you choose (SSAO or HBAO+).
  • When you change the SSAO setting, the mod will update itself automatically whe closing the game menu.
  • The mod also incorporates a dedicated menu for users to choose some settings, especially shadowmap resolution.
  • Indeed, the mod aime at homogenizing shadowmap quality over all regions, this can have a significant impact on some machines, therefore I included a shadowmap resolution setting in order to counter the performance impact.
  • In addition to that, the mod lets the user choose between 3 different settings the shadowmap filter (depending on the taste of each user, see the Images included for comparison): SMOOTH, MEDIUM and SHARP. As their names indicate, the shadows will appear smoother with the SMOOTH setting, and sharper with the SHARP setting.
  • Furthermore, the mod menu includes a setting to tweak the SSAO interior multiplier to the taste of each user.
  • Eventually, the mod incorporates custom interior lighting, triggered when the player enters in a building or something similar, which darkens the interior and corrects reflection inconsistencies. It can be disabled according to your own taste in the mod menu.

Mod menu localization:
The mod is available in French and English. I also provide a .csv file if someone is interested in translating it to other languages. Do not hesitate to send the translated .csv file to me.

How to install:
  • First, install Shared Imports as it is required for the mod to work
  • Either use The Witcher 3 Mod Manager or drag and drop the archive content into your game directory
  • Use Script Merger if necessary
  • If you do a manual install, do not forget to add the line (without the quotes): "jl102Lighting.xml" at the end of dx11filelist.txt and dx12filelist.txt
  • With Mod manager install or manual install, you need to copy the content of "dx12user.settings.part" or "user.settings.part" (whether you use the DX12 or DX11 executable of the game) at the end of your dx12user.settings or user.settings. If you do not do this, the game might not remember some settings of the mod.

How to install:
  • Remove the corresponding folders in the "mods", "dlc" and the file "bin\config\r4game\user_config_matrix\pc\jl102Lighting.xml"
