Description
Occultist gains the following changes:
- Unchecked Power now has a 100% chance to apply Burn, and applies an amount of Burn equal to the Unchecked Power stack. However, it no longer bypasses resistance. (This change comes from Seinglede's Occultist rework. In vanilla I found the Burn from Unchecked Power to be effectively meaningless, as even at 3 UP you only get 1 point of Burn, which is nothing. I was also annoyed to discover the UP Burn couldn't be resisted, as it cuts off synergy opportunities with Burn resist trinkets. This should fix both these problems.)
- Weakening Curse: Now applies a debuff that inflicts 1 Weak every turn for 3 turns, but has cooldown 2. Upgrade removes Strength and Crit tokens and reduces cooldown to 1.
- Vulnerability Hex: Now removes Block as well as Dodge and applies a debuff that inflicts 1 Vulnerable every turn for 3 turns, but has cooldown 2. Upgrade applies Combo and Vulnerable and reduces cooldown to 1. (These two just feel undertuned compared to what Confessor Vestal and Maniac Flagellant can put out. These curses now cripple enemies for a significant time, making them much more worth a turn. Hopefully the cooldown is enough to balance them.)
- Anamnesis: Now ignores Dodge and has a 25% chance to inflict Combo (to match The Burning Stars inflicting Combo). Moves Occultist back 1. (I never saw a reason to use Anamnesis over The Burning Stars; it's rare for battles to last long enough for AoE DoT to matter by the time you build up enough Power. Originally I changed the Bleed to a Stun, but some players on the Discord insisted that was overpowered and the vanilla version is still useful, so I've switched it back to its basic functionality. Move back is added for synergy with Binding Shadows, and is thematically fitting with the Shambler.)
- The Burning Stars: Now consumes all Unchecked Power tokens when used, but can be used at 1 UP and gains +100% damage per additional UP. Base damage is halved to compensate. (This change comes from Seinglede's Occultist rework. This makes The Burning Stars more flexible and easier to use without Chaotic Offering. I worry the added flexibility might make it too powerful, given it's already one of Occultist's strongest skills, but this works for now.)
- Malediction: Now costs 1 Unchecked Power instead of 2. To mitigate spam, basic has cooldown 3 and mastered has cooldown 2. Application ignores debuff resistance. Debuff now decrements based on round instead of turn. (I just didn't feel it had comparable payoff to The Burning Stars, so it's cheaper now. The turn -> round change is so it applies evenly across enemies with multiple actions. I also removed the possibility of the enemy wasting the whole move outright, because seriously.)
- Wyrd Reconstruction: Required threshold is now 50% HP instead of 33%. The Unchecked Power boost now provides a guaranteed heal for the maximum of Wyrd Reconstruction's range, but no longer provides a guaranteed critical. (I got sick of paying 2 UP for a worse heal than Battlefield Medicine. If you're paying the same cost as you would for The Burning Stars, I think you should at least get some guaranteed healing.)
- Binding Shadows: Launch ranks are 4/3/2. Critical chance increased by 5% for both basic and upgraded. Minimum and maximum damage increased by 1 for both basic and upgraded. (I'm not sure why Binding Shadows is strictly worse than Sacrificial Stab in vanilla when moving Occultist forward almost always puts him in a worse position and he has no way to move back on his own. Instead I've decided the forward should be a tradeoff for a stronger attack. And why oh why did Trinkets and Baubles change the launch ranks, I changed it back to what it was originally.)
I'm considering a change to Chaotic Offering as well, as the current mastery upgrade doesn't feel worth it to me, but removing the HP cost entirely seems too overpowered (and raises the question of what's being "offered"). I'll ponder this further in future versions.
The localization edit updates tooltips for modded skills and updates the description of Unchecked Power to be accurate to the mod's changes.
Some of this code was taken from Seinglede's own Occultist Rework. I asked for permission to use their files, but got no response. They may contact me if they wish for me to remove their files.
